Club visit toCounty Classics Motor MuseumTaunton

Updated: 4 days ago

Fifteen members journeyed to Taunton having a delicious Brunch at Rumwell Farm shop on the way there.

We then drove the last 4/5 miles into the centre to visit COUNTY CLASSICS MOTOR MUSEUM which was opened last November by Richard Hammond.

The museum is an old department store located in the main shopping Street. The focus is on cars and motorcycles from the 1950s to the 1990s although there are vehicles from as early as 1915 to the 2000s. There must be 100 vehicles and about 80 motorcycles packed in to the premisee and also an aeroplane.

The Museum is the brain child of Pat Hawkins who bought and sold his first car when he was 11 years old!. We had the privilege of meeting him and learned how he had collected many cars over the years.

The members enjoyed seeing the cars of our youth and rembering old times and perhaps rembering the cars we used to admire but could not afford at the time.

We  enjoyed welcome refreshment in the delightul cafe and many enjoyed the delicious selection of cakes.  As I often say we are a cake and car club!

We were indeed fortunate to have lovely weather for quite a long drive, but well worth the visit.
